Henrietta B. Ungleich
2002 Outstanding Citizen
Of Nelson, N.Y.
Henrietta B. Ungleich, 92, formerly of Nelson, N.Y., died March 12 at Ashlar of Newtown. Mrs Ungleich was the wife of the late B. Eugene Ungleich. They were married for 61 years. She was born in Walcott, Iowa, on June 28, 1914, a daughter of Carl and Minnie (Hagen) Bendfeldt. Mrs Ungleich was a 64-year resident of Nelson, N.Y.
Mrs Ungleich is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kewley and her husband, Joe, of Newtown and June Davoust and her husband, Don, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sons, Wallace Sibble of Rome, N.Y., and his friend, Carol Millson, of Cazenovia, N.Y., and George Sibble and his wife, Anne, of Huntsville, Ala.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Carl Bendfeldt and his wife, Margaret, of Harrisonburg, Va. In addition to her husband, Mrs Ungleich was predeceased by a son, Emerson Sibble, as well as her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
She was a longtime 4-H leader and was a member of the Nelson Methodist Church, the Nelson Grange, and the Morrisville (N.Y.) Garden Club. In 2002 she was honored as Nelsonâs âOutstanding Citizen.â Mrs Ungleich lovingly welcomed others into her life and generously shared her home and her many gifts with them.
She was known for the delicious food she prepared and graciously served to her family and guests, her beautiful yard and gardens, and the lovely clothing she made for herself, her family, and others. For several summers she managed the kitchen at a private club in Cazenovia, N.Y., and she also did catering from her country home. Her home arts entries at the New York State Fair won countless prizes through the years.Â
Mrs Ungleich also regularly volunteered in her community doing things such as dispatching at the ambulance corps and preparing mailings for the Office of Aging. Her most enduring legacy, however, is the difference she made in the lives of many people who loved her and who remain grateful to her for the love and help she gave them.
The family appreciates the loving and professional care given Henrietta by the staff at Ashlar and the VNA Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at Walnut Hill Community Church, Bethel, on Sunday, March 25, at 4 pm. Interment will be in Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.
