Newtown Residents Invited To Join Annual MS Walk

WESTPORT — The Western Connecticut Chapter of the National MS Society is encouraging Newtown residents to challenge themselves — and each other — to form walking teams for the MS Walk on Sunday, April 1. The MS Walk is held annually and will take place this year at Sherwood Island in Westport and Litchfield Town Green in Litchfield. The event raises funds for MS research and services for people living with MS in the area.

The MS Walk’s “Team Week” had its official kickoff February 5, in which people are encouraged to form walking teams of four or more people. During the week of March 12 to 16, an On-Line Donation Contest is being held, with the persons raising the most amount of money online each day Monday through Thursday, as well as the top fundraiser, receiving prizes.

Janet Pierpont, chair, Board of Trustees, said, “We find that our participants enjoy walking as part of a team because it’s one of the few opportunities they have to join in a fun, healthy, and beneficial activity with their friends and family.”

Teams can be groups of four or more friends and family, coworkers, schools, or places of worship. To find out more about registration either as part of a MS Walk team or individually, visit www.msswct.org or call 203-838-1033.

On April 1 approximately 3,000 people will participate in the MS Walk that is expected to raise $450,000. Participants can choose to walk the fully accessible two-mile or the five-mile route at either of the walk locations.
