Taunton HR Manager Serving Womenâs Center
Dawn Ussery, manager of human resources at The Taunton Press in Newtown, has been elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury. Ms Ussery holds a bachelor of science in music education from Gettysburg College and a masterâs in communications from Fairfield University.
She also holds a senior professional in human resources certification.
No stranger to volunteer work, Ms Ussery has given of her time to organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, the Mid-Fairfield AIDS Project, and the Special Olympics. She is a member of the Connecticut Literacy Council, a volunteer for United Way and the American Cancer Society, and an active participant in her daughterâs Girl Scout volunteer efforts.
Last year the Womenâs Centerâs sexual assault, domestic violence, and resource services staff provided free and confidential services to 2,368 Newtown residents. The centerâs comprehensive education and prevention programs, so critical in terms of breaking the cycle of violence, have been and will continue to be offered to Newtown schools, organizations, and service groups.
âI recently learned about the Womenâs Center and its focus on ending violence and empowering individuals through many crucial services and programs,â Ms Ussery said. âI look forward to becoming involved and helping to raise awareness for this worthwhile organization.â
The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault, and other major life transitions to thousands of women, children, and men annually. The programs of the Womenâs Center are supported by state and local government, area United Way agencies and the people and businesses in the communities we serve including Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, Warren, and Washington.
