The Newtown Soccer Club is inviting all coaches, volunteers, and parents to a workshop designed to teach the unique philosophies and methodologies in creating a winning player and winning teams through the unique approach to child development called “Strengths-Based Coaching.”

NSC is the first in Connecticut and second in the nation to offer this type of workshop. The Club has been working with MLS to offer this course in an effort to educate its coaches and parents on how to teach our youth and give our kids the best possible experience we can.

The workshop will be held Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31. The Friday session will be held in the Newtown High School lecture Hall from 6 to 10 pm while the Saturday session will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 am on the Treadwell Park turf field.

As an example of some of the topics, participants can learn about the 7 Secrets of Success of a Strengths Based Coach –

Develop the WHOLE child as well as the player; Create winning opportunities for all; Embrace a positive psychological climate; ‘Perform’ at games by encouraging good performance from all; Live by their ‘ABC’ (“Always be Coaching”) The right Way!; Make every meeting an “event”; Develop a REAL relationship with all

As America’s largest youth sports education provider, MLS Camps understands the importance of identifying talent and working to strengths. It has developed a sequential, developmental pathway for players aged five all the way to up to the Elite Team level. The workshop will help people understand the background, knowledge, expertise and training needed to effectively serve their players.

Newtown Soccer Club feels so strongly about the benefits of this workshop, that in future years it may adopt this coaching methodology and make this class a prerequisite to becoming a volunteer within the soccer club.

The cost to each parent or coach of a registered soccer player is free. The cost  for all others will be $75 dollars.

Email Larry Dunnigan at coaching@newtownsoccerclub.org if you are interested in attending this course. Pre-registrations for this event must be done no later than March 25.
