Richard H. Wilson
Lifelong Sailor And Photographer
Richard H. Wilson, 59, of Sandy Hook, died February 22. He was the son of the late Margaret (Handy) and Richard Joseph Wilson.
A graduate of Fairfield Country Day School, he attended Tabor academy in Marion, Mass., the King School in Stamford, as well as Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield. Upon graduation from New England College, he pursued a career in photography. He engaged in both studio work and freelance event projects. Later he was employed at Brooks Community Newspapers in Westport.
A lifelong sailor, he was an avid participant in yacht racing. A member of Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport, he raced his 38-foot yawl, Artemis. More often, he crewed on numerous other racing yachts. One would certainly expect to see him at Block Island Race Week every year.
An outdoorsman in his earlier years, he enjoyed hiking in New Hampshireâs White Mountains. He was an accomplished skier and worked briefly as a ski instructor after college.
Always an animal lover, Mr Wilson supported several animal welfare organizations and recently helped in a campaign to protect the Connecticut Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard from elimination in the state budget.
Survivors include many good friends, cousins, and his two cherished cats.
A memorial reception will be held at the Fayerweather Yacht Club, Saturday, April 28, at 7 pm.
Contributions in Mr Wilsonâs memory may be directed to Front Range Equine Rescue, PO Box 8807, Pueblo CO 81008-8807.
