Sherman Players Announce Season
SHERMAN â Two musicals, one of Americaâs most classic modern tragedies, and an evening of staged monologues from one of Englandâs sharpest and most celebrated humorists are in store for Sherman Playhouse audiences during the 2004 season.
A View From the Bridge, Arthur Millerâs intensely absorbing drama, opens the season on April 16 and runs four weekends through May 8. John Taylor will be directing his first show for Sherman. Millerâs tragedy concerns a longshoreman who makes room in his home for two illegal aliens with irreversible results.
A Chorus Line, the hit musical conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, opens June 17 and will play weekends through July 17. Lanny Mitchell is the director.
The third production is a departure from the usual Broadway musical. American Songbook, the songs and writings of the legendary folksinger Woody Guthrie, is an inspirational journal celebrating the American experience.
Frances A. Daley will direct a cast of five performers who give voice to Guthrieâs observations from his travel across America starting in the 1930s. American Songbook will run the weekends of August 13 to September 11.
The final offering is another departure for Sherman Players. Betsy Scholze will direct actors in an evening of half-hour monologues from Alan Bennettâs Talking Heads, whose solo pieces are classic contemporary drama universally hailed for their razor-sharp wit and deeply felt humanity. Talking Heads will run for only two performances, Friday and Saturday, October 23-24.
