Newtown Historical Society presented the second session in its three-part hands-on series on Colonial Sewing on February 28.

Melissa Houston — former board president of the historical society, former director of education for Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield, and current director of education for Greenwich Historical Society — is the facilitator for the series. Under her tutelage, participants are constructing pieces including petticoats and bedgowns while exploring the clothing and craftsmanship of Colonial New England.

The series is being presented at Newtown Community Center.

Launched in January, the series is an America 250 event, part of the national effort to observe and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
