Monroe Man Is Suspect In Three Newtown Residential Burglaries

By Andrew Gorosko

Police said this week that they are seeking arrest warrants for a Monroe man who they believe committed three daytime residential burglaries in the area of Boggs Hill Road this month.

Through such warrants, police would charge Jason Klein, 20, with burglary and larceny counts, said Detective Sergeant Robert Tvardzik.

“We are in the process of applying for arrest warrants,” Det Sgt Tvardzik said March 16.

Two of the house burglaries occurred on March 4, he said. Power tools were stolen from homes and garages in the break-ins, he said. The stolen tools were later recovered in Ansonia, he said.

Police also are linking Klein to a residential burglary in the Boggs Hill Road area that was reported on March 14, Det Sgt Tvardzik said.

A credit card that was found by police in Klein’s possession in Southbury on that day appears to have been stolen from the Newtown residence, the detective sergeant said.

State police apprehended Klein in the Southford section of Southbury on March 14, lodging 12 charges against him.

Klein was involved in a minor motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 67 and Route 188 in Southford that day and then fled the scene of the crash, according to state police. Police chased Klein on foot and caught him.

The police investigation indicated that Klein had been driving a stolen vehicle taken from Beacon Falls when the accident occurred, state police said.

A search of Klein’s room at the Southbury Hilton revealed many stolen items including cash and jewelry, state police said. Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia also were found, state police added.

State police said that the stolen property was linked to burglaries that had occurred in Newtown, Monroe, and Woodbury.

State police charged Klein with second degree larceny, motor vehicle theft, interfering with police, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, third degree forgery, criminal impersonation, second degree criminal trover, illegal use of a credit card, receipt of money and/or goods from the illegal use of a credit card, reckless driving, and evading responsibility.

Other charges are expected from law enforcement agencies including Newtown police.

The state police charges against Klein are being adjudicated at Waterbury Superior Court. Newtown charges against Klein would be handled at Danbury Superior Court.
