911: A Lifesaving Call
911: A Lifesaving Call
To the Editor:
First and foremost I would like to thank Newtown Ambulance for their prompt and professional response to my 911 call regarding my husband. With signs and symptoms unknown to him, he was having a heart attack. Within minutes he went into cardiac arrest. With Newtown ambulance and the Danbury Paramedics on hand they saved my husbandâs life. In looking back I cringe thinking that I was going to drive him to the hospital. He on the other hand told me to play it safe and call 911. The call saved his life. I would like to thank Mary Nielson, Ken Appley, and Blair Blamforth from Newtown ambulance. I would also like to thank Jerry Schwab, Rob Murphy, and Lauren Giolotty from Danbury Paramedics. Without your fine work my husband wouldnât be here today.
Second, I would like for all to know that upon arrival to Danbury Hospital, where they stabilized my husband, I was then told they do not handle Advance Cardiac Services. Which means they do not perform angioplasty or open-heart surgery. We needed to be transported to Bridgeport Hospital. Knowing he was having a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest the drive to Bridgeport was the most hellish 25 minutes of my life. No one young or old should be put in that situation. Presently, Danbury Hospital has a Certificate of Need Application for Advanced Cardiac Services. Our area is growing and so are our needs. Please lend your support to Danbury Hospital. Now more than ever our voices and letters need to be heard.
Finally, thank you to all of our friends and community, your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
