Changing Times
To the Editor:
In 1964 our entire student population was housed in three schools. Today we need seven schools to house our student population and an eighth school for approximately 500 high school students is being considered.
In 1964 our town was policed by a single resident state trooper. Now we have a police department consisting of 43 members and it must still continue to increase.
It shouldnât be a secret to anyone that the reason for these significant increases must be directly attributed to housing construction. Fortunately we now realize this and money is being included in our town budget for the town to purchase land in an attempt to slow down residential development.
When we purchase Fairfield Hills the town will have 189 acres of town- owned land. This is a good beginning and any attempt to have housing on this land will be at variance with one of the basic reasons for the town to purchase land.
Sincerely,
Al Cramer
