Sunday Slo-Pitch

The Newtown Men’s Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League will be having its first meeting on Thursday, March 18, at 7 pm, in Edmond Town Hall (first floor, old courtroom). League is also looking for some ASA umpires. Call Tom Egan at 426-5136.

Weeknight Slo-Pitch

The Newtown Weeknite Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball League is asking managers of teams interested in participating to call Chris Dennis at 770-1824. There will be a league meeting at the end of May.

Youth Lacrosse Coaches Sought

The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association is searching for coaches (head and assistant) for the spring season. A head coach is needed at the Boys 7th/8th ‘B’ level and assistants are needed at the Boys 7th/8th and 5th/6th ‘B’ level. Free Indoor Soccer Clinics

The Newtown Soccer Club is offering free indoor winter skills training clinics to registered players in ‘E’ and ‘F’ divisions. Brian Neumeyer, Newtown High School boys soccer coach and Newtown Soccer Club Coaching/Training Director, will oversee the clinics. Players must wear indoor shoes or sneakers as well as shin guards. Players must also bring a soccer ball and water bottle. No cleats will be allowed to be worn in the gym. All training will be held in the gym at Hawley School from 4 to 5 pm on the following Mondays – Session #2: Boys will meet on March 22 and 29. Any scheduling changes will be noted on the web at www.newtownsoccerclub.org.

 

Lacrosse Officials Needed

The Southern Connecticut Lacrosse Officials Association is seeking candidates to work as high school and youth lacrosse officials (serving Fairfield County). For further info, call Guy Gavitt at 1-203-775-0141.

Babe Ruth Baseball Evaluations

The Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold its evaluations for 12-year-old players on Sunday, March 14, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Newtown Middle School A gym. A follow-up phone call will be made to notify each player of a specific time slot. All players should bring gloves (a bat, too, but those will be provided). Namath/Dockery Football Camp

The Joe Namath/John Dockery Football Camp will run from June 27 through July 2 at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. National Football League players expected to participate include Anthony Becht and Kareem McKenzie of the Jets; Wayne Lucier and Dhani Jones of the Giants; Damon Huard, Antwan Harris and Deion Branch of the Patriots.The camp is open to players ages 8 to 18. Pop Warner Football/Cheerleading Signups

The Newtown Pop Warner Football/Cheerleading program will hold registrations for the 2004 season on Saturday, May 8, from 9 am to 12 noon, in the Newtown High School cafeteria. Pop Warner will feature a new Mitey-Mite Division, with  a minimum age of 7 and a minimum weight of 45 pounds. For football questions, call Mike McNamara at 364-1690.  WestConn Gketball Camp
