Taizé Meditation And Prayer At Trinity Church

A tradition of worship that incorporates music and chanting began years ago in the ecumenical French monastic community called Taizé. Held at Trinity Episcopal Church in the darkened, richly resonant space, the Newtown church’s Taizé services provide an uncomplicated framework for quiet meditation, reflection, readings, and music.

The church is offering Taizé services each Wednesday during Lent at 7:15 pm and also on Monday of Holy Week (March 30) at 7:30 pm.

There is no Eucharist or sermon during a Taizé service; the experience has the opportunity of deepening faith through the power of prayer. All are encouraged to participate as the Spirit moves them, whether that be in song, prayer, or quiet meditation.

A Taizé Choir and instrumentalists of the Taizé Ensemble are led by Music Minister Fiona Smith Sutherland in the beautiful, candlelit nave of Trinity Church. All are welcome.

Trinity Church is at the flagpole, 36 Main Street in Newtown. Contact the music office for more information at 426-9070 extension 11.
