Welcome To The Real World
Welcome To The Real World
To the Editor:
As a second year college student I was appalled to read Ms Barrettâs letter about the change in the school calendar [Letter Hive, 3/13/09, âMore Work, Fewer Breaksâ]. Yes, the shortening and removal of days off and breaks is aggravating, but it is preparing you for the real world. Ms Barrett stated that she was a student at Newtown High School; therefore she should be preparing herself for the life ahead. In the real world vacations and breaks are slim to none, and I can guarantee life out here is much harder than tests and homework. As for the removal of Veteranâs day, it is not disrespecting our country and the men and woman who served it. I am sure the people who have served, and are currently serving, would like to see that the future of our country is secure because children are getting a proper education. Also, many services are held after school to remember and honor those who have and are serving our country. As a college student, I am given very few breaks. The school year consists of a Thanksgiving break, Christmas Break, and a spring break, and that is perfectly fine. The real world is not a place for people complaining about not getting longer breaks and more days off.
