Joan M. Csanadi

Joan M. Csanadi, 56, wife of Michael Csanadi of 7 Bonnie Brae Drive, Newtown, died March 19 in Danbury Hospital after a brief, brave battle against cancer.

Mrs Csanadi was born in Providence, R.I., February 22, 1944, a daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Kyle) Peck. She was raised in Cranston, R.I., and was a graduate of Cranston East High School. She was a member of People’s Baptist Church during her childhood. A resident of Newtown the past 35 years, Mrs Csanadi was formerly employed as an accounting clerk for Blackstone Industries of Bethel.

Mrs Csanadi was one of the first kidney transplant recipients in Connecticut. On March 12, 1974 she received a kidney from her father at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Mrs Csanadi was a 25-year board member and secretary of the Danbury Dialysis Fund. For many years, she gave motivational talks to pre-dialysis patients at Danbury Hospital.

She was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years at different places of worship. For 15 years she was a Christian Children’s Fund sponsor.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Christine Hadgraft and her husband Jeffrey of Sandy Hook; a brother, Russell Peck, Jr, of Okemos, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Jane McFetters of Riverside, R.I. and Carol Gallagher of Warwick, R.I.; three grandchildren, Amanda, Brooke, and Michael Hadgraft. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Tenk.

Funeral services were held March 22 in the Newtown Congregational Church. Burial was in Newtown Village Cemetery.
