WATERBURY – Stop the abuse!

Every day thousands of animals suffer at the hands of humans. What are your moral duties to rescue an animal in an abusive situation? What are your potential legal liabilities if you do so? What is your best course of action? What can or should be done to or for the owner?

Those questions – and many more – will be answered at the Animal Abuse Symposium on Saturday, March 25, at 1 pm, at the Drubner Center on the Waterbury campus of Teikyo Post University. A panel composed of members of local animal rescue organizations, legislators, animal control officers and attorneys will discuss how to prevent animal abuse and the laws surrounding animal abuse.

Ironically, there are owners who really do love their animals. But some are collectors who simply acquire more animals than they can take care of. Other owners have become sick, old or economically disadvantaged and cannot care for their animals.

Also, sometimes the owner is cold and uncaring – or is openly abusive – towards the animal that is dependent upon him or her for human treatment.

Admission to the symposium is $10. Proceeds will benefit the Tiekyo Post University equine scholarship program and local animal rescue associations. For further information, call Carole Baker at 1-203-596-4631 or check the Teikyo Post website at www.TPU-equineresource.org.
