Seminar For Those Whose Lives Have Been Touched By Cancer

DARIEN –– Recognizing that the most important tool that a cancer survivor can have is education and the power and skill to use it, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in collaboration with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, will present “Cancer: Keys to Survivorship ––Fighting Fatigue and New Paradigms for Cancer” on Tuesday, March 25. Supported by an educational grant from Ortho Biotech, this program will be held at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, from 6 pm to 9 pm.

“This program is for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer,”explained Patient Services Manager Phyllis Osterman. “We will be covering areas that are not generally included in cancer education programs. It’s sure to be an informative and enlightening event.”

Guest speaker Dr D. Barry Boyd, director of integrative medicine at Greenwich Hospital, will be discussing the integration of nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, and complementary therapies into the treatment of cancer. Teresa White, oncology nurse educator, will also talk about how to fight fatigue while facing cancer.

An estimated 1.2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year with 15,000 new cases in Connecticut. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest private organization concerned solely with funding research towards cures for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin disease, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

The Fairfield County CT Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be presenting two more “Cancer: Keys to Survivorship” programs this spring. “Living With, Through and Beyond Cancer: Strategies for Self-Empowerment and Self-Care” will be held on April 29, and “Advances in Managing Pain” on May 27.

All seminars will include a light supper and preregistration is required. To RSVP or for more information about any of the upcoming seminars, contact Phyllis Osterman at 203-967-8326 or view www.leukemia-lymphoma.org.
