Appraisals By A Panel Of Experts,

Sunday Afternoon

The Newtown Historical Society will again offer people a chance to find out the value of their treasures large and small with an antiques appraisal day. The special event will be on Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 5 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, at the flagpole on Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.

Verbal appraisals will be $5 per item. All proceeds will benefit the society’s several programs.

The panel will include Tucker Frey, the owner of Tucker Frey Antiques in Woodbury, specializing in 17th, 18th and early 19th Century furniture and decorative accessories; Wayne Mattox, also of Woodbury and the owner of an auction gallery and appraisal service as well as the author of a syndicated column “Antique Talk”; Don Broderick, the owner of Broderick’s Antiques in Springfield, Mass.; and Steve Stieglitz, of Newtown and Manhattan, the owner of an antiques and estate jewelry business for over 30 years.

The event is expected to draw a large crowd; last year’s event saw over 200 items evaluated during the three-hour time span. To avoid a backup, each person is limited to three items for appraisal per trip through the line. Call the society at 426-5937 for further information.
