DANBURY – PONY, an international book publisher based in Danbury, has chosen an 11-year-old from Benson, Arizona, to play an extra in its new movie about a teenage girl who loves to ride horses but who has a bad experience on horseback.

The girl, Rowene “Belle” Crawford, won a contest and was chosen from 1,110 entries to be an extra in the feature-length movie, Monocerus The Mysterious Unicorn, due for a summer release on DVD (exclusively to PONY Club members) and a summer 2008 release in theaters.

The film is produced by PONY and Incitus, a Norwegian film production company.

At home Crawford, who was adopted herself, has adopted a wild Mustang – named Galahad – and acts as a “veterinary assistant” to her mother at their Arabian breeding farm. At the farm they have, at last count, 27 Arabians, two wild burros and Galahad.

Crawford’s father, Clifford, introduced her to PONY, which sponsors a book club with 40,000 to 50,000 members in the United States and Canada alone (about 180,000 worldwide). Crawford – also a budding writer – submitted an essay for the contest and was chosen the winner.

The movie was shot in Norway and Chester, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2006.

PONY is published by Stabenfeldt, Inc., with its corporate offices in Danbury and members services offices in Bristol. The club offers 12 member packages a year consisting of books, members’ magazine, extra gifts and surprises with horses as the common theme.

PONY was first established in Norway in 1982 as an extension of its comic magazine, Penny, and was first published in the United States in 2003 and in Canada in 2006. Internationally, the Club is published in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
