Local Swimmers Help Pace Prep

Freshman Andrew Golankiewicz, senior Kevin Cahalane and freshman Ryan Cahalane – all of Sandy Hook – were members of the CIAC Class L state champion Fairfield Prep High School boys swim team. At the Class L finals on March 14 at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Golankiewicz was fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.44) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (4:54.92), both personal best times and fast enough to qualify him for the CIAC State Open at Yale where he finished 15th in both races. Kevin Cahalane was 16th at the Ls in the 100 freestyle (52.33) and Ryan Cahalane was 19th in the 200 freestyle (1:54.20). When Prep won its third straight SCC title back on February 28, Golankiewicz was second in the 500 freestyle (4:59.44) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:05.96), which earned him All-Conference status in both events. Ryan Cahalane was sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:11.53) and 13th in the 200 freestyle (1:57.38) while Kevin Cahalane was 11th in the 50 freestyle (23.87) and 25th in the 100 freestyle (55.63). Prep put together in first undefeated season (15-0) in school history.
