Who you calling blind?

This blind bandit is stealing hearts at The Animal Center! Nobody would blame Ray for moping around on his cat bed and feeling sorry for himself. But nobody’s told Ray that he’s blind and he wasn’t at the water bowl when the bulletin was posted!

Ray was rescued two weeks ago by The Animal Center and needed immediate surgery to remove his badly infected eyes. The veterinarians who helped Ray had to shave the hair on his face then suture the incisions around his eyes, so for a while Ray was looking like a scarecrow with big blue stitch eyes and matching blue e-collar.

Ray is part daredevil, part acrobat, part bumble (like the famous monster in the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer cartoon, Ray seems to bounce when he falls).  Ray is a 10-month-old cat who believes he is a 10-week-old kitten. He is full of spunk! Despite his loss of vision, Ray zips and zooms after toy mice, his kitten friends at The Animal Center, and stray feet, gliding through life as if all is right in the world.

And when you consider what Ray has been through, it makes him all the more amazing. Ray was abandoned in the dead of winter. He was found trying to paw his way into a house in search of food and shelter. When the owners of the house opened their slider door to find out what the noise was about, a very tired and very hungry Ray stumbled into their house and fell asleep on the kitchen mat for the next 12 hours.

When Ray awoke, they called The Animal Center for help.

It’s been three  weeks since his surgery. Ray’s stitches have been removed. His hair is growing back and he’s starting to look like a cat again. His doctor has given him a clean bill of health and has given the green light to place Ray for adoption.

No doubt Ray dreams of climbing cat towers, playing with toys, spending time with friendly cats, and finding a loving home to call his own. Can you please help us find this special place for Ray?

To adopt or to make a donation to The Animal Center to help pay for Ray’s surgery and follow-up care, please contact Monica at The Animal Center  at (203) 270-0228 or visit www.theanimalcenter.org.
