Womanâs Club Honors Arts and Crafts

With dozens of entries to examine, judges Susan Warner, Nita Hill, Frank Gardner, and Fawn Schmidt had their work cut out for them at the Newtown Womanâs Club, GFWC, Inc annual Arts and Craft show held Thursday, March 15, at the Stony Hill Inn on Route 6 in Bethel.
Crafts, jewelry, floral arrangements, needlework, drawings, paintings, and photography exhibits were attractively displayed as the judges slowly worked their ways about the perimeter of the room to determine the winners of this yearâs show.
Overall Best in Show was awarded to Peg Forbell, for a white, cotton, hand-crocheted bedcover.
First Place in the Heritage Crafts division for etched glass went to Marion Thompson. Betty Warner placed first for a seed bead pin in the Jewelry division. Other First Place awards went to Jo Ann Bruno, pitcher, Ceramics division; Flo Caron, basket of flowers theorem painting and Lorraine Vanderwende for a small box in the Early American division; Marianne Imhoff, silk flower center piece, Flowers division; Betty Warner, ornament, Christmas decorations; Peg Forbell, adult apparel, sweater, cotton article, small doily, cotton article, large bedspread and Betty Warner, yarn article, large afghan, Crocheting division.
Also, Peg Forbell, adult apparel, sweater, adult accessories, knitted socks and Betty Warner, hat and mittens, Knitting division; Suzanne Lehman, embroidery, tablecloth napkins, Peg Forbell counted cross stitch small and large and Jo Ann Bruno, canvas needlepoint, small, Needlework division; Peg Forbell, accessory, pocketbook, Ruth Campbell, patchwork quilt, machine, Lilleba Peterson, trapunto, pillows, Betty Warner, pin cushion, mixed techniques and Betty Doty, quilt, mixed techniques, Sewing division; Virginia Ciaramonte, acrylic, Evelyn Spera, oil, Marianne Scanlon, watercolor and Jo Ann Bruno, drawing, pen and pencil, Original Art division; Shirley Ferris, black and white portrait, Pat Denlinger, natural history, Pat Denlinger, color portrait, Virginia Ciaramonte, natural history, Pat Denlinger, scenic and Virginia Ciaramonte, feature, Photography division.
Winners of the club level judging will go on to regional judging later this spring.
