Rosamond T. Smith, 89, of Federal Street, Brunswick, Me., died March 17 at Mid Coast Hospital.
She was the grandmother of Nathaniel N. Smith of Sandy Hook.
She was born in Portland, Me., July 12, 1910, the daughter of Elias and Dorothea (Perkins) Thomas. She graduated from Mary C. Wheeler School in Providence, R.I., and Wayne Fleet School, Portland, Me. She was employed at Gilmanâs Music in the late 1950s. She married N. Brooke Smith in Fryeburg, Me., September 26, 1930.
Mrs Smith was instrumental in starting the Brunswick area March of Dimes. She was a Grey Lady at the Hyde Home in Bath, Me., member of the Womenâs Auxiliary at the former Regional Memorial Hospital, and prepared food at the Girl Scout Camp at Mere Point.
She wintered in Vero Beach, Fla., for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling and attended many Olympics. She was a member of First Parish Church in Portland, Me.
She is survived by a son, Michael N. Smith of Southbury; a daughter, Polly Parnell of Brunswick, Me.; a brother, David Thomas of Bondurant, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs Elmer (Beatrice) Cobb of South Portland, Me., and Mrs Edward (Julia) Young of Yarmouth; eight other grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Peter Smith, who died July 16, 1997.
A memorial service will be held at First Parish Church, Main Street, Brunswick, Me., in April at a time to be announced. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brunswick Me.
