Tree And Shrub Identification Walk
Tree And Shrub Identification Walk
WESTON â On Sunday, April 9, from 1 to 3 pm, at Katharine Ordway Preserve, 165 Goodhill Road in Weston, Fred Moore will lead an early spring walk to identify trees before their leaves appear.
Besides flowers and fruit, each tree has specific characteristics in silhouette, bark, branching, leaf scars, and leaf and flower buds. Focusing on these nonleaf features, Mr Moore will identify trees in the arboretum and along the trails.
A preserve manager and arborist, Mr Moore will also reveal stories about Katharine Ordway, the philanthropist who preserved Devilâs Den and who left 62 acres of her former estate to the Nature Conservancy to protect and manage as the Katharine Ordway Preserve.
There is no charge for this program, but the minimum age is 10. Interested participants should call the Devilâs Den Office at 203/226-4491 weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm for registration, directions, or further information.
