College Cost Web Site Unveiled
WASHINGTON, D.C. â Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., this week joined Secretary of Education Richard Riley at the Department of Education to unveil a new, free consumer-friendly Web site which will provide students and their parents with detailed information on higher education costs. Known as College Opportunities On-Line (COOL), the Web site can be accessed directly at http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cool/.
Sen Dodd, a member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, offered the provision to the Higher Education Amendments Act of 1998 which authorized the creation of the COOL Web site.
The College Opportunities On-Line (COOL) Web site offers direct access to 10,000 colleges, universities, and career schools, and provides families with facts on financial aid, tuition costs, degree programs, enrollment statistics, and student demographics. COOL will enable families to compare costs, track cost trends over time, and make more informed decisions from among a wide range of institutions of higher learning.
