ST CHARLES, ILL. â Decoy auction firm Guyette and Schmidt, Inc of St Michaels, Md., will hold its 22nd annual spring decoy auction on April 26â27 at the Pheasant Run Resort.
The auction will be held in conjunction with the National Antique Decoy and Sporting Collectibles Show, the countryâs largest antique decoy show, which is sponsored by the Midwest Decoy Collectorâs Association. The show will begin on the evening of April 28 and will continue all day on April 29. Another highlight of this decoy extravaganza will be on Wednesday and Thursday evening, when more than 100 decoy collectors and dealers set up and sell from their rooms at the Pheasant Run.
This yearâs sale, with an expected gross in excess of $4 million, will feature more than 650 lots of investment quality decoys and related items, including duck calls, waterfowl, paintings and fish decoys. This yearâs auction will feature decoys from the collection of longtime decoy collectors Pete and Janet Van Trigt of Hilton Head, S.C. All geographic areas are well represented, but the strongest include Illinois River, Michigan, Ontario, Mason Factory, Virginia and the Ward Brothers. A fine collection of Lake Chautauqua fish decoys will be offered.
