Newtown Hockey Players Win Gold In Lake Placidâs Challenge Cup
Newtown High School hockey players David Landau and Josh Branchflower and future Nighthawks Tyler Hanley and Cooper Gold participated in the Can Am Challenge Cup in Lake Placid, NY March 19-21 . The Newtown skaters helped the Brewster Bulldogs win the gold medal.
Landau and Branchflower reunited with their Bulldog teammates they played with in the fall.
Brewster went 3-1 against teams from New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Landau and Branchflower led the charge with Landau scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in four games and Branchflower netting 5 goals, including the decisive tally in the title game. Branchflower snapped a tie in the fourth overtime to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over the Massachusetts-based Coastal Starts in the pinnacle game. Hanley and Gold had solid performances in the tournament.
