Peer Employment Training Talk On Tap

FAIRFIELD — NAMI Fairfield’s April Speaker Meeting will take place Wednesday, April 1, and will feature Richard Weingarten, regional director of consumer affairs at the Greater Bridgeport Community Mental Health Center and adjunct professor at Housatonic Community College. Mr Weingarten will be joined by participants in the Peer Employment Training (PET) program offered at HCC.

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Its goals are to support those living with mental illness and their loved ones, to provide educational programs to the community that foster understanding and healthy living, and to provide advocacy.

The PET program prepares people with psychiatric disabilities to work assisting their peers in the mental health field. PET teaches marketable skills and competencies that enable its graduates to earn a Peer Support Specialist certificate.

They may then enter the mental health workforce with a discipline as distinct as social work or clinical case management.

The meeting takes place in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, from 7:30 to 9 pm and is free of charge and open to all. Light refreshments will be served.

For more information, call Judy at 203-650-3463.
