Barbara Booker
Barbara Booker was born on October 19, 1926, in New Castle, N.H. She moved as a young girl to Sandy Hook, as her father Stephen Wargo was from Norwalk.
Her mother Jessie Maloon Wargo passed away while they lived at 100 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook when Barbara was 4 years old.
Barbara stayed in Connecticut in New Britain for a while but then moved to Newtown, where she spent most of her life. She worked at Curtis Box Shop in Sandy Hook. Mostly she was a homemaker raising her 6 children – Ray Bresson Jr., Frederick Bresson, Thomas Bresson and Karlene Bresson Blaser from a previous marriage to Ray Bresson Sr, and Diane Booker Drescher and Kevin Booker with her current husband Archie Booker. She has 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara donated much of her time to various charities, helping Meals on Wheels, driving for Dialysis and the Cancer Society. She spent years involved in the Newtown Christian Church with bible studies, church treasurer and cleaning the church. She loved to attend Little League games, Pop Warner, high school games and the men’s sport leagues. You always saw her on the sidelines cheering for Newtown.
She later moved to Woodbury with her husband Archie Booker and for many years spent countless hours on the sidelines watching her grandsons play sports – always cheering them on. She lived out her last 20 years in Woodbury with her husband of 65 years.
