Be Part Of The Tammy’s Garden Support Team
Anyone who has walked by or driven by Tammy’s Garden at Newtown Municipal Center during the growing season knows what a wonderful addition this garden is to the greater Fairfield Hills campus. Hundreds of trees, shrubs, perennials, and flowering bulbs provide a changing backdrop for the various birds and pollinators who visit there. It also provides a quiet space for human visitors to relax and de-stress.
Tammy’s Garden was designed and established by Protect Our Pollinators in 2019, and formally dedicated in June 2022. It was funded by private donations and is maintained mostly by a small group of dedicated volunteers who do weekly maintenance as needed. As the garden has grown through normal expansion as well as the addition of some species, it is clear more volunteers would be very welcome.
Anyone with an interest is gardening is invited to join the group. No special skills are needed.
Volunteers generally meet on Tuesday mornings and work for an hour or so. The time offers a great opportunity to improve gardening skills as well as to meet some positive and fun people. The work itself is very rewarding in many ways.
The garden is on the western side of Newtown Municipal Center, on 1st Street (unmarked). From the main entrance of the Fairfield Hills campus follow D.G. Beers Boulevard to the second turn on the right, just before the sign for Newtown Municipal Center. The garden is midway down that block, on the left, and plenty of parking is available opposite the garden.
