Democracy In Full Swing

To The Editor:

It's only April, and the democratic process is already in full swing here in Newtown! Two Democratic candidates have announced candidacies for the 106th State House of Representatives seat, representing Newtown, and I am honored and humbled to be one of them.

This year brings an exciting change to how the endorsement will be decided. Rather than the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) selecting the candidate on its own, the process is open to all registered Democrats, something that hasn't happened since 2016. That means this May, Democrats in Newtown will have a voice in shaping who represents them. I hope you'll take advantage of this meaningful opportunity.

Two forums, discussed and agreed on by the candidates, will be moderated by the League of Women Voters and will take place in April and May. These events are a good chance to hear directly from both candidates, ask questions, and make an informed decision. I look forward to participating and to the conversations ahead.

Of course, forums aren't the only way to get to know me. I've spent the last several years knocking on doors across Newtown because I genuinely want to hear what's on your mind, and I plan to keep doing exactly that. A quick internet search will also bring up my 15-year public service record, including my work on the Board of Education, the Legislative Council, and the Board of Selectmen. And, I host events regularly, including Coffee Talks where you can ask me questions one-to-one. You can also find me on Facebook and at www.KuIsForYou.com.

Newtown Democrats deserve the opportunity to learn about their candidates, whether at a well-organized forum, at your front door, online, or right here in The Bee. I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a note at kuisforyou@gmail.com. If my years of service to this community haven't yet earned your support, I look forward to doing so in the months ahead.

Michelle Embree Ku

Candidate for State House District 106
