*A fairly calm weekend is coming up locally on the music scene, but one bright spot may be the CD release party at Laszlo’s Café Friday night. POINT OF VIEW will be performing and celebrating the release of its latest effort on April 7. 5 Finger Discount has an opening set.

*For really local music, Newtown has music in two locations Saturday night. The monthly coffee house returns to Newtown Congregational Church House at 7:30. Doors open at that time for one hour of open mic, and then at 8:30 the featured performer, DAVE De ANGELIS, will be on stage. Mr De Angelis is a modern day sea chanteyman.

The church house is at 41-A Main Street, in the white building behind Newtown General Store and Newtown Savings Bank. Now that the bank’s back lot has been taken care of following last year’s renovations, there is plenty of parking in that lower lot, so you don’t have to fight with the moviegoers at Edmond Town Hall for parking spaces.

Around the corner and down the hill, live Irish music returns to Starbucks Newtown, on Church Hill Road. TOM DOYLE, MOIRA KELLY, MARGIE MANNION & BILL DEVLIN are scheduled to return with their popular program of music from the Emerald Isle, performed on a variety of instruments. That runs from 7 to 9 pm.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you... on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown 06470, or shannon@thebee.com. Include a phone number for confirmation, please. If you don’t have a stamp or a piece of paper or a writing utensil that works, give me a call! The phone number at the office is 426-3141. Shows listed on the calendar at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
