Call For Entries: Fiber Art Exhibition & Sale At Flanders

WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust invites artists and crafters to enter their original fiber arts creations in its “First Annual Fiber Art Exhibition and Sale,” to be held Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, as a part of the Farm Day Festival at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary.

Entry categories include quilting, weaving, knitting, crochet, needle felting, wet felting, fiber art dolls, spinning, dyeing, embroidery, rugs, needlepoint, buttons and beads, fiber art and multi-media art. There is a $5 entry fee, and there will be a 20% commission on sales.

The Fiber Art Sale creates an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces from local fiber artists.

Runway Fashion Show

In addition to the fiber art exhibition and sale, Farm Day Festival 2011 will include a fashion show featuring outfits that have been made entirely of recycled/repurposed materials.

“We’re inviting everyone to use their imagination and turn recycled materials into ‘trashion’ statements,” said Dianne Parmelee, Flanders Education Coordinator. “You’ll show off your green garment on the runway, in front of a panel of judges, and send an important, earth-friendly message about recycling and the preservation of natural resources in our community.”

The competition is open to kids, adults, families and groups. Prizes will be awarded for each theme: Trees Are Terrific, in which an outfit is made form at least 50 percent newspaper, cardboard or recycled/re-purposed paper; Aqua-Attire, for outfits with a water conservation message; Farm Cow-Lection, for the best outfit with a local farm or agriculture theme; and Flanders Green Theme, an open category where imagination is key.
