Car Vs Fence
Police report they charged a male motorist under age 18 with six offenses on the afternoon of April 2 following a one-vehicle accident near 6 Farview Drive. Police did not disclose the driverâs identity because he is under age 18.
Police said the boy was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo coupe northward on Farview Drive at about 4:27 pm, when the vehicle swerved and then went off the roadway to the right, striking a wooden fence.
The boy fled the accident scene on foot and was soon apprehended, police said. The boy said that the autoâs brakes had failed and he lost control of the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries.
While the boy was in custody inside a police car, he kicked out one of the vehicleâs windows, police said.
Police said they arrested the boy on charges of second-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police, possession of drug paraphernalia, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and reckless driving.
Following arrest processing, the boy was released on $10,000 bail for an April 11 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court, police said.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Tommy McMichael, 26, of Trumbull went to the police station on the night of March 31 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with simple trespassing, police report.
Police said the warrantâs issuance stemmed from McMichael not having responded to an infraction that he had received on the night of September 26, 2010, for allegedly trespassing at the town-owned Fairfield Hills campus.
Following processing on March 31, police released McMichael on $92 bail for an April 14 court appearance.
Hawleyville Crash
Motorist Catherine Simmons, 48, of 7 Partridge Lane was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer SUV eastward near 151 Mt Pleasant Road about 7:16 pm on March 31, when a deer entered the road. The Ford and the deer collided. The deer ran off. Simmons was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Two Charges
Police report they were called to an Old Stream Road residence about 11:17 am on March 31 on a report of a man having been found unconscious there.
Police said that they determined that Christopher Stratman, 30, of Bethel had intentionally inhaled some fumes from an aerosol can, causing him to lose consciousness.
Stratman was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated, police said.
Police said they later charged Stratman with illegal use of a restricted substance and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Stratman was released on $500 bail for an April 14 court appearance, police report.
Three-Vehicle Crash
Motorist Ronald Ryan, 56, of 15 Diamond Drive, was attempting to park a 2002 Ford SUV in the rear parking lot at 172 Mt Pleasant Road at about 1:18 pm on March 29, when the Ford struck a parked unoccupied 2007 Chevrolet SUV, which then cause the Chevrolet to strike a parked unoccupied 2007 Dodge pickup truck, police said.
There were no injuries, according to police, who took no enforcement.
Vandalism
Police report that sometime between 7 am on March 28 and 9 am on April 2, someone intentionally damaged a motor vehicle that was parked in a residential driveway on the section of The Old Road near Currituck Road.
The vandal scratched two doors on the vehicle. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Woman Charged
State police report they responded to westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 interchange, about 7:11 pm April 1, after learning that there was a woman in that area walking alongside the highway.
State police said they learned that the Plymouth Police Department held a warrant for the arrest of that woman, Alicia Peterson, 46, of Islamorada, Fla., so they took her into custody.
State police said that a search revealed that Peterson was in possession of six grams of marijuana, so they charged her with possession of a controlled substance.
Peterson was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges, state police said.
Prison Letter
State police report that a female correction officer from Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown went to the Troop A barracks in Southbury on the afternoon of March 28 to report that a prison inmate had sent her a âthreatening letter.â
State police said they were investigating the case and would seek an arrest warrant against the unnamed inmate.
Road Rage
State police said they investigated an incident of road rage that involved a collision between two motorists about 7:30 am on March 31 on westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Exit 9 interchange.
State police said they charged both motorists with reckless driving.
Charged were motorist Gary Hyde, 49, of 3 Owl Ridge Lane, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic, and motorist Melissa Kunkel, 30, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Mazda 5, state police said.
There were no injuries in the collision. Both motorists are scheduled to appear in court on April 11 to answer the charges, according to state police.

Four MV Violations
Police report that they conducted a motor vehicle stop near 3 Borough Lane at about 7:39 pm on April 4, pulling over motorist Gary Fetzer, 55, of 18 Sugar Street to investigate.
Police said they charged Fetzer with driving with a suspended vehicle registration, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to carry a driverâs license, and failure to have functioning taillamps.
Fetzer was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 20.
Bad Check
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Neil Heslin, 48, of Shelton turned himself over to police at the police station on April 4 and was charged with issuing a bad check, police report.
Police said they obtained the arrest warrant after investigating a complaint that Heslin had written a bad check for the boarding of a horse.
Heslin was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 19.
High Bridge Road
While conducting radar speed patrol about 7:40 pm April 4, police stopped motorist Dora Ballard, 48, of 2 Avalon Way near 42 High Bridge Road, police said.
After an investigation, police charged Ballard with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, and failure to carry a driverâs license.
Ballard was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 18.
Vehicle Violations
Police said that while conducting radar speed patrol on Elm Drive about 1:38 pm April 1, they spotted northbound motorist Robert Martinez, 32, of 4 Valley View Road driving 40 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police charged Martinez with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license. Martinez was released on a written promise to appear on court on April 14, police said.
Car Vs Pole
Police said that motorist Richard Rau, 82, of 17 Longview Heights Road was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon northward on Longview Heights Road about 8:30 am March 31, when the vehicle speeded up instead of slowing down at the intersection of Longview Heights Road and Route 302.
The Subaru then struck a utility pole and continued traveling, coming to rest on eastbound Route 302 at its intersection with Head Oâ Meadow Road, police said.
Rau was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, police said. The incident is under investigation, according to police.
Graffiti Incident
Police report a graffiti incident at the masonry bridge walls of the Housatonic Railroad overpass on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Tunnel Road about 10 pm on April 3.
Police said they responded to the Tunnel Road area after receiving a report that there was a suspicious vehicle parked in the area.
Several cans of aerosol spray paint were spotted inside the unoccupied vehicle there, police said.
The townâs police dog then tracked some suspects in the case who were heading toward the nearby Interstate 84, police said. The dog then tracked the people back toward the railroad bridge, with police finding a male youth who had some paint on his hands and clothing.
Police said their investigation determined that the boy had sprayed graffiti on the masonry railroad bridge wall.
Also, another youth was involved in the incident, police said. That youth had served as a lookout to allow the other youth to do the illegal spray painting, police said.
But the lookout person fled the scene, police report.
The boy who was apprehended was under age 18, so police did not reveal his identity.
Police arrested that boy on charges of criminal mischief, interfering with police, trespassing on railroad property, and criminal conspiracy. That boy was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court on April 18.
The case remains under investigation.
Firehouse Damaged
Police report that the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Companyâs fire substation at 249 Berkshire Road (Route 34) was damaged by an unknown vehicle sometime on April 3 or April 4. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact investigating Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Shoplifting
Police said they responded to the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 3:51 pm April 6 after receiving a shoplifting complaint.
Police said they found Susan Kunz, 53, of 4 Lorraine Drive in a wooded area near the store. Police allege that Kunz stole some merchandise from the store. Police added that Kunz provided false identification information to them.
Police said they charged Kunz with sixth-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, and interfering with police.
Kunz was released on $100 bail for an April 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Keys Found
During the weekend of April 2âApril 3, a set of keys that were attached to a blue carabiner was found at Dickinson Park. The owner should contact investigating Officer Matthew Hayes at the police at 3 Main Street to claim the keys.
MV Charges
Police report that they stopped a vehicle near 80 Church Hill Road about 5:37 pm April 5 to investigate.
Police said they charged motorist Alexjandro Lima, 21, of Bethel with failure to wear a seatbelt, driving with a suspended license, and failure to return a suspended license to the state.
Lima was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 20.
