Charles âChuckâ Roland Stephen, 72, of Newtown, died April 2, at Danbury Hospital, from complications of lung cancer. He was born October 7, 1938, in Stratford, a son of Isabel (Hyde) and Roland Stephen.
Mr Stephen married Charlotte Northrop Ferris July 19, 1958.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Williamsburg, Va. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, the Stephens chose to reside in Newtown, where they raised their son.
Throughout his life, Mr Stephen worked in the construction industry for Tamarack Construction, the Town of Newtown, and Reliable Excavating, and then was self-employed for a number of years.
He enjoyed classic cars, tinkering in his garage with his â55 Chevy, and spending time with his son.
He is survived by his only son, Chuck Stephen, Jr, and his wife Eszter, of Newtown; three grandchildren; three brothers, David, Richard and Billy Stephen of New Milford; a sister, Shirley; several nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

Funeral services took place April 6. Interment with military honors followed in Newtown Village Cemetery.
Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
