Her Talking Point: Strive To Seek A Common Ground

To the Editor:

Well, here we go again. In response to Dave Jossick’s letter (Letter Hive, 4/1/11, “MoveOn.org’s End Goal is Socialism”), I have no interest in participating in personal bickering. I do want to set the record straight on some points for his edification, and those who seek to malign MoveOn.org.

Let me start by saying that I don’t know where Mr Jossick got his information, but the MoveOn.org rally was carried out peacefully and comfortably on the middle school lawn — definitely not in the street where Mr Jossick says I belong. It was gratifying that so many people drove by honking their horns, and giving us the thumbs-up. In response to his question about having a Tea Party on the Middle School lawn, it would certainly be with my blessings. This is, after all, America. Democracy means that all voices should be heard, and given respect and consideration. I listen to all, do not define myself by one, and I have voted for candidates of different parties. I live by ideas and ideals, not labels. (So much for my “double standards”)

Regarding Mr Jossick’s accusation of “talking points”: Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a free and independent thinker, and I definitely speak my own mind. As far as “trolling on Facebook”: I did access The Bee online via my Facebook account, and Mr Jossick’s comment regarding Liberals having no standards was made not to his friend on Facebook, but on a public forum.

For readers who are not familiar with MoveOn.org, it is an organization that brings everyday Americans into the political process. Here, I quote from the website: “We work together to realize the progressive promise of our country, a way for busy but concerned citizens to find their political voice in a system dominated by big money and big media.” MoveOn.org Political Action “brings hundreds of thousands of small donors together to elect candidates who will represent the American people, mostly funded by people who give less than $100 — folks who don’t have a lot of money but want to see a change.”

I looked up Mr Jossick on Facebook, so I could put a face to the name. Surprisingly, I had access to his “Wall” and I could even read comments there regarding his letter, like this one: “Great job Dave, George Soros and MoveOn.org are a bigger threat to America than Osama Bin Laden.” Which brings us full circle. My wish is that more people would strive to seek a common ground, and stop all the divisive rhetoric. (I must admit here that I had to Google George Soros.)

I don’t know what “personal gain” Dave Jossick accuses me of trying to garner by my letter to the Bee. But, I’m pretty sure I’ll find out next week. For me, “I’m outta here. Enough is enough, already.”

Peace,

Jackie zVon
