Occupation: I’m an ethics and compliance specialist. I work for Deloitte & Touche, LLP, in Wilton. We monitor the independence of our employees, to ensure that they are in compliance with SEC [Securities & Exchange Commission] rules. As such, we must do everything in our power to assure that we behave, and are perceived to behave, objectively. This means clearly establishing our independence from the client, showing that we share no financial interest or mutual interest with them. My role is to identify and resolve exceptions that arise from information entered by partners and employees into Deloitte’s investment tracking and trading system.

Family: My husband, Carlos, and I have two daughters. Ajene is 11 and Cyrena is 5 years old.

Pets: No pets. Our fish died when we moved here.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have been here for three years. We moved from Mount Vernon, N.Y.

What do you like to do in your free time? There’s not a lot of free time, but I do volunteer. I work with at-risk high school students through College Summit, to help them see the value of a college education. I love to cook, and spend time with my family. I’m the president of the PTA at Reed Intermediate School, so that keeps me very busy.

Do you have a favorite cookbook? I love The Art of Caribbean Cooking by Yolanda Cools-Lartigue. I picked it up while on vacation in Dominica. It brings me back to a lot of French-influenced recipes I grew up on, as a very young child.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? It’s a toss up between Barbados and Tobago, but I’ll go with Tobago. We love it. It feels heavenly to be there. It’s tranquil, and it has beautiful beaches, and beautiful reefs for snorkeling.

What is the best thing about Newtown? We moved to Newtown for the schools. We have improvements to make, but the school system is on par. And I like the community feel. I’ve got wonderful neighbors, so I can’t complain.

Do you have someone whom you admire? I admire my mom. My dad passed while I was in college and she became both mom and dad to her four children. She showed us her resilience and strength, and showed us how to be independent. I owe everything to her of what I learned of resiliency and strength.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I try, in my everyday life, to treat everyone the way I would like them to treat me. What goes around, comes around.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? My husband would say shopping, and he is probably right. I do like to shop for myself, once a year, and get the best of the best. I buy all of my dress clothes for work, at once. I take a day and it’s just for me.
