Margaret M. Cashman

Margaret M. Cashman, 97, wife of the late Alton W. Cashman of Danbury, formerly of Waterbury, died at the Pope John Paul II Health Care Center in Danbury on April 6.

She was born in Danbury on February 24, 1907, daughter of the late Daniel J. and Bridget (Curtin) Mulvihill.

Mrs Cashman is survived by two sons, Alton W. Cashman and his wife, Gail, of Little River, S.C., formerly of Newtown; and Jack Cashman and his wife, Terry, of Blytheville, Ariz.; a daughter, Elaine Dodds of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Waterbury; eight grandchildren, Christopher Cashman, Darrin Cashman, Eric Cashman, Megan Gouveia, Brian Dodds, Robert Cashman, Vanessa Cleveland, and Jennifer Cashman; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Margaret was predeceased by four brothers: Daniel Mulvihill, Ambrose Mulvihill, John Mulvihill, and Walter Mulvihill, and four sisters: Marye T. Mulvihill, Frances Mannion, Dorothy Wixted, and Joan Mulvihill.

Mrs Cashman grew up in Danbury and was a graduate of Danbury High School. As a young woman in Danbury, she was a window designer for the former Lillian Garber Shop and for the former John McLean’s Department Store.

Mrs Cashman moved to Waterbury in 1937 following her marriage, and lived in Waterbury until she returned to Danbury in 1998. She had worked for many years in the Tax Office in Waterbury City Hall and also, while in Waterbury, she had been active in Democratic politics and had served as president of the Waterbury Democratic Women’s Club; she had also served as a delegate to several Democratic state conventions.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Peter Church, Danbury, on Monday, April 12, at 10 am. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pope John Paul II Health Care Center, 33 Lincoln Avenue, Danbury CT 06810.
