Navy Veteran

Jacob A. Curnal, 85, of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, husband of Virginia (Cosich) Curnal, died March 31, at his residence. Mr Curnal was born in Hoboken, N.J., son of Julia (Clisura) and Antonio Curnal, and was raised in Jersey City.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son, James A. Curnal and his wife, Virginia; and a daughter, Lisa Eckstrom and her husband, Craig; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Newark College of Engineering. A World War II US Navy veteran, he served with the Seabees.

He was recruited by the Major League Baseball Association and played for the Chicago Cubs.

Pfaff and Kendall of Newark, N.J., employed him as its plant manager for 38 years. As a New Jersey resident, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Exchange Club, and Rotary. He was active with the Union Little League as well as the Teener League. He enjoyed golf, horseracing, and trips to Las Vegas.

He was a former member of the Holy Spirit Church of Union.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 6. Burial will take place in St Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield, at the direction of the family.
