NHS Chamber Choir To Sing At Music Educatorâs Association Conference
The Newtown High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of John Harned, was selected as an Honorâs Ensemble to sing at the 65th Annual Connecticut Music Educatorâs Association Conference Thursday, April 8.
The Chamber Choir sang a concert for music educators from around the state as an example of an exemplary ensemble at the high school level. The NHS Chamber Choir has the distinction of being the only high school choral ensemble chosen this year from among all submissions.
âWe are all really excited,â Mr Harned said this week by email.
In 2008 the NHS Singers were chosen for the same distinction, which was a great experience for the kids and the director, according to Mr Harned. This means two separate choral ensembles from Newtown High School have been chosen in the past three years as models of what a good high school choral program should sound like.
âGroups who have been accepted represent the finest in music teaching and learning in the state and will serve as exemplary models of performance for our membership,â said Dale Griffa, president-elect of Connecticut Music Educatorâs Association in an email to Mr Harned.
