Underage Drinking To Be Topic Of Community Conversation

How pervasive is underage drinking in Newtown? Is it a problem? What do the kids think? What can the community do? Those were questions posed in a release announcing this weekend’s second installment of Newtown’s Community Conversation on Underage Drinking.

Answers to these questions and others will be discussed at the second of two community conversations on underage drinking in Newtown, according to the release. Anyone who lives or works in Newtown is invited to join community members discussing strategies to address underage drinking Saturday, April 10, at 8:30 am, at Reed Intermediate School.

On Saturday, January 23 more than 100 people discussed opinions on underage drinking, identified points of agreement and areas of concern, and suggested next steps for reducing underage drinking in Newtown. All residents are invited back to turn those suggestions into action plans this Saturday.

After a shared breakfast, participants will break into small groups to work on initiatives for students, families, school, and the community. Small group plans will be shared with the larger group and the event will be finished by 11 am. The Newtown Prevention Council will use these results to initiate programs.

If you would like to attend on Saturday, or would like more information, contact Judy Blanchard at 203-425-2798 or blanchardj@newtown.k12.ct.us.
