Occupation: I am a full-time mother and home schooling mother. I graduated from Ithaca College in New York. I have a bachelor of science degree in education and previously taught physical education at Central Catholic in Norwalk. I coached volleyball, track and field, and gymnastics.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for 15 years. I lived on Main Street for eight years. Previously, I lived in Stamford, where I grew up.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: Itâs losing a bit of its charm. Weâre losing our farm vistas. We were so grateful to be moving up here â it was country to us. The metropolitan life style is encroaching. Thatâs a shame, but change is inevitable.
Family: My husband, David, and I have been married for 17 years. We have three sons, Timothy, 11, Charlies, 9, and Samuel, 7, who I home school.
Pets: We have Beaner, a Doberman mix, who is 15; Pippen, a lab mix, who is 4; 20 chickens who all have names (we sell the eggs); and two turtles. We had a ten foot boa constrictor, which we donated to a school. He weighed 30 pounds. We also keep bees.
Hobbies: I donât have much time for hobbies, but I have a lot of interests. I enjoy sports and athletics, house renovation, and gardening. I also like art and music. Iâm all out in the home schooling mission. We do fun things together.
Favorite Books and Authors: I enjoy reading a lot, but a lot of my reading has to do with educating the boys. Quite honestly, my favorite book is the Bible. Itâs one book I never tire of reading.
Favorite TV Show: We donât get TV, we donât have cable. You donât miss it. Weâre not a television family. Thereâs too much else to do. We watch videos, appropriate and educational entertainment, and the boys are big readers.
Organizations: I am a member of Common Ground, the home school organization that meets in my home once a month. We plan activities and share teaching tips.
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: Being on Main Street, the Labor Day parade was always great fun. That was a neat time. We always had a big party. Another memory is of Hurricane Gloria. We sat on our back porch and watched the hurricane come through.
Favorite Vacation Spot: When we went to Germany, Switzerland, and France was a special time. I also like Bar Harbor in Maine and the Florida Keys.
Personal Philosophy: My faith in the Lord has shaped my philosophy. I believe that every day is a gift. We can choose to do with it great things or we can lose it. I show my gratefulness to Him in how I treat my boys and what I accomplish. I want to share the love of Christ and give to folks through a kind word or service. It is a blessing to do in that capacity, rather than to wake up and think about doing something for myself.
