Crash In Snowy Conditions

During a snowstorm at about 7 am on March 31, motorist Danielle Dubow, 26, of Easton was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV westward on snow-covered pavement near 24 Button Shop Road, when the vehicle slid off the road on a curve and then struck a rock and a tree, police said.

Dubow was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sugar Street Accident

At about 7:08 am on March 31, motorist Emily Papp, 17, of 22 Shut Road was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon eastward near 161 Sugar Street amid snowy conditions, when the auto went out of control on a curve, went off the left road shoulder and then struck an embankment, police said.

Papp was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Highway

Motorist Kevin Preusse, 39, of New Milford, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9, encountered slippery pavement conditions during some freezing rain at about 7:49 am on March 31, state police said.

The Honda went out of control and then spun onto the median where it struck some guardailing, state police said. Preusse was not injured. State police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Sandra Ballard, 53, of Danbury went to the police station about 4:30 pm on April 2 and was charged with violation of probation, police report. The arrest stems from a past incident.

After processing, police released Ballard on $2,500 bail for an April 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 Theft From Vehicle

Sometime between 8 pm on April 2 and 8 am on April 3, an unknown person broke a window on a parked motor vehicle and stole a purse from within the auto, police said. The incident occurred near a residential property on Alberts Hill Road in the vicinity of Lake Lillinonah.

Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Botsford Crash

At about 2:42 pm on April 3, motorist Paige Logel, 23, of 233 Hattertown Road was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra sedan westward on Swamp Road, as motorist Norman Anderson, 82, of Monroe was driving a 2000 Chrysler Concorde sedan northward on South Main Street, police report.

The Hyundai entered the intersection of the two streets, after which the Chrysler struck it, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Logel a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Cruiser Rear-Ender

Police said that at about 1:25 pm on April 4, Vincent Ezzo, 63, of Derby, who was driving a commercial 2008 Lincoln Town Car livery vehicle southward near 43 South Main Street, slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Lincoln was struck from behind by town police Officer Charles Guernsey, 33, who was driving a town-owned 2012 Chevrolet Caprice sedan police car southward.

There were no injuries. Police said the accident is under investigation.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police report that a three-vehicle collision occurred about 6 pm on April 4 near 98 South Main Street.

There were no injuries. After investigating, police charged motorist Jamila Geter, 26, of Stratford with misuse of marker plates and failure to have automotive insurance. Geter was released on a written promise to appear on April 17 in Danbury Superior Court, police report.

Exit 11 Ramp Accident

At about 11:12 pm on April 5, motorist Erica Rende, 26, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon sedan, stopped at a flashing red traffic signal at the end of the Exit 11 off-ramp for Interstate 84, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by motorist Mario Miscione, 65, of Monroe, who was driving a 2012 Fiat 500, state police report.

There were no injuries. Miscione received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Interstate Collision

Motorist Mark Fusco, 47, of Watertown was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, east of the Exit 11 on-ramp, about 12:14 pm on April 5, when the Dodge was hit by an eastbound 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV driven by Frederick Ferris, 46, of 24 Robin Hill Road, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they gave Ferris an infraction for making an unsafe lane change.

Flagpole Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street about 1:04 pm on April 5.

In that incident, motorist Thomas Homola, 23, of Trumbull was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Express van southward on Main Street, as motorist Janet A. Salafia-Willover, 51, of 63 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2012 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, was attempting to drive westward from Church Hill Road to West Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Police said Salafia-Willover received treatment at the scene for injuries. Police said they issued Homola an infraction for passing on the right.

Attempted Burglary

Police report an incident that occurred about 9:30 pm on April 5 in which an unknown person or persons attempted to forcibly enter an occupied home on Brushy Hill Road, in the vicinity of John Beach Road.

On failing to gain entry, the person or persons left the area, police report.

A resident, who was not injured in the incident, called police to report the situation. Police are investigating the attempted break-in and ask anyone with knowledge about it or who witnessed suspicious activity in that area at that time to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at 203-426-5841.

Highway Crash

At about 3:24 pm on April 6, a Vernon man was driving a 2011 BMW 5-series auto eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, when an unknown blue or gray vehicle struck the BMW and then kept driving, leaving the scene of the collision, state police said.

Neither the man driving the BMW nor a female passenger were injured, state police said. State police are investigating.

Berkshire Road Incident

At about 9:19 am on April 7, motorist Anne Berger of Ellenville, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Honda Civic sedan westward on Berkshire Road, near Jordan Hill Road, was negotiating some curves when the auto struck an unknown object on the roadway, damaging the auto, police said.

Berger was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Graveyard Crash

Police report that at about 1:30 pm on April 7 while he was on duty, town police Lieutenant George Sinko, 49, who was driving an unmarked town-owned 2005 Dodge Durango SUV police vehicle, attempted a parking maneuver while in Land’s End Cemetery at 66 Hawleyville Road, and backed into a three-foot-tall stone pillar there.

The collision caused approximately $2,000 in body damage to the vehicle, police said. The incident is under investigation, according to police.

Ford vs Pole

Police report that at about 1:48 am on April 8, motorist Susan Stendbergh, 55, of 7 Sugar Street was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan westward on Church Hill Road, when the auto veered off the right side of the street, struck a utility pole, and then came to rest on the front lawn at Hawley School.

Police said Stendbergh explained to them that a deer had run onto the street, resulting in the accident.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Stendbergh an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for making a restricted turn.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police said they stopped a man driving a Toyota Corolla sedan about 2 pm on April 8 near the intersection of South Main Street, Appleblossom Lane, and Cedar Hill Road to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Paul Gustafson, 46, of Woodbury with driving with a suspended license and driving a with a suspended registration.

Gustafson was released on $2,500 nonsurety bail for an April 22  court appearance.

Driving Violations

Police report that at about 6:30 am on April 9, motorist Otillio Gonzalez-Nava, 35, of Bridgeport passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone near 121 Mt Pleasant Road, so they stopped Gonzalez-Nava to investigate.

Police said they lodged charges of illegal passing and driving with a suspended license.

Gonzalez-Nava was released on $100 bail for an April 23 court appearance.
