Preparing For The Post-Prom Party
Preparing For The
Post-Prom Party
To the Editor:
As most parents of NHS seniors know, there will be a Third Annual Post-Prom Party held at Newtown High School immediately following the prom on May 4, running from midnight to 4 am. It is open to all seniors and their prom dates. It is important to note that all seniors are welcome; they do not have to attend the prom. Last yearâs attendance was over 160 students.
This yearâs theme is âLifeâs A Beachâ with the lobby of the school being transformed with corresponding decorations. The highlight this year will be a renowned comedic hypnotist, Steve Wronker. The DJ this year is Kevin Koschel, whom many seniors already know. The seniors are also welcome to bring their own music via iPod that can be hooked up to Kevinâs system. In addition, there will be pinball machines, Ping-Pong tables, Dance Dance Revolution, 4 Square, and a new obstacle course.
Food and drinks are provided throughout the night. There will be pizza, popcorn chicken, a make-your-own ice cream sundae station, popcorn, and soda, water, and lemonade for drinks.
There will also be some fantastic prizes for the seniors to win: a laptop, a Kenwood sound system for the car, $100 mall gift certificates, and many more prizes and gift certificates that have already been donated and more coming in each day (thanks to many of our local businesses/families).
Our goal is to give the seniors a great fun-filled safe place to meet after the prom to continue partying throughout the night. To help this yearâs post-prom party be the most successful yet, we are asking the following from parents:
1. Please do not hold your own house party, and encourage your child and guest to attend the schoolâs Post-Prom Party. Please keep in mind that it is against the law for a child under 18 to drive between midnight and 5 am unless they are driving for employment, school, religious, or medical-related reasons. The Post-Prom Party qualifies as school-related; house parties do not.
2. Please consider donating your time to this event. It is not too late. We will need help decorating the lobby of NHS after school ends on May 4. We will need all different shifts: 3â6, 6â9, and 9â12. We are also looking for chaperones to help throughout the night from midnight to 4 am (Saturday morning).
3. We are still looking for donations. Can your business help, can you? We are looking for prizes for the seniors to win, along with monetary donations. Please help in any way that you can.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me via e-mail (CErcole@aol.com) or phone (426-9035). You can also contact the school with questions (426-7646). Our next post-prom meeting will be Tuesday, May 1, if you would like to attend. All comments and help are extremely welcomed. Thank you in advance.
