Support Ryan’s Lions

Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse, baseball, and boys’ and girls soccer teams are planning fundraisers in honor of NHS English teacher and lacrosse coach Marc Kenney’s newborn son, Ryan.

Ryan was born to Marc and Kateri Kenney on December 8, premature and weighing just two pounds at birth. Ryan spent nearly four months at UConn Medical Center following his birth, which meant 45-minute drives each way for his parents and mounting medical bills. Ryan went home a hefty eight pounds at the end of March.

The NHS soccer teams will host two one-day soccer clinics at Newtown Youth Academy, 4 Primrose Street. From 9 to 11 am Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19, boys and girls ages 6-12 will have a chance to improve their soccer skills with high school varsity players. The players are hoping that their donation of time will help raise funds to the Kenneys, to help with some of their son’s hospital bills.

Donations of $20 per child are being requested, but donations of any size will be accepted and appreciated. For those who cannot send a child to the clinic (or whose child will be unable to attend either session) but would like to make a donation, checks may be sent to Newtown High School Girls Soccer and mailed to 26 Bridge End Farm Lane, Sandy Hook CT 06482. For additional information, call 203-770-8875 or send email to NewtownHSGirlsSoccer@gmail.com.

The baseball team will charge $3 for admission, as part of its fund-raising efforts, to its game against Joel Barlow of Redding on Friday April 27 at 6:15 pm at Fairfield Hills Baseball Field.

The Newtown High School girls’ lacrosse team is sponsoring a March of Dimes team for Ryan Kenney.

Donations for the team, called Ryan’s Lions, which go directly to the March of Dimes, may be made at the girls’ lacrosse team’s game against Weston at 7 pm Blue & Gold Stadium on May 8.

Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association’s bantam teams will play at halftime of the high school game.

Those who wish to donate may also visit www.MarchForBabies.org/team/t1865092.
