Mirror Hit By Electric Bike

Newtown Police report Warren Fowler, 66, of Waterbury, operating a 2024 Toyota Rav4, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 4:15 pm March 26. An electric bike struck the vehicle’s passenger side mirror.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Truck Hits Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Franklin Williams, 39, of Bloomfield, operating a 2025 Freightliner M2 106 tractor trailer, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 6:18 am March 28. Williams' vehicle struck the railroad bridge located just past Swamp Road.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Williams was issued an infraction for failure to obey height requirements.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Ryan Moore, 32, of Fairfield, operating a 2007 Honda Accord, was traveling on Toddy Hill Road approaching the intersection of Berkshire Road at 2:15 pm March 28. He was behind a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by Maritta Pivetta, 38, of Monroe, who was stopped at the intersection. Moore rear-ended Pivetta's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Moore was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Struck Curb

Newtown Police report David Cherniske, 43, of Milford, operating a 2013 Honda Fit, was traveling eastbound on Hanover Road at 8:34 am March 31. An unknown vehicle traveling westbound crossed the center lane into the eastbound lane. Cherniske swerved to avoid a collision and veered off the side of the road, striking a curb. The unknown vehicle corrected and continued westbound.

No injuries were reported. Cherniske's vehicle was towed.

Rear Ended On Washington Avenue

Newtown Police report Olivia Decatur, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Washington Avenue at 2:44 pm March 31. She was traveling behind a 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by Margaret Mattera, 17, of Newtown. Mattera stopped and Decatur struck the rear of Mattera's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Decatur received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Toyota Strikes Audi

Newtown Police report Nataliya Sostin, 50, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Toyota Rav4, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road at 8:43 am April 2. She was traveling behind a 2019 Audi Q5 operated by Julie Yorty, 43, of Ridgefield. As traffic slowed ahead for the light at Mt Pleasant Road, the front of Sotin's vehicle struck the rear of Yorty's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Sostin was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

One Injured In Collision

Newtown Police report Lauren Gesualdi, 19, of Sherman, operating a 2014 Chrysler 200, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 5:46 pm April 2. She was traveling behind a 2022 Toyota Highlander operated by Amanda Sanders, 50, of Easton. Sanders began to slow down for traffic ahead waiting to make a left turn onto Bears Hills Road. Gesualdi rear-ended Sanders’ vehicle.

Sanders suffered possible injuries but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Gesualdi was issued an infraction for following too close.

Stopped For Delivery Driver, Rear-Ended

Newtown Police report Christopher Berich, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Toyota Highlander, was traveling northbound on Main Street at 7:53 pm April 2. He was traveling behind a 2025 Ford Maverick operated by Aaron Bowman, 52, of Danbury. Bowman stopped to allow an Amazon delivery truck to reverse out of a driveway and was rear-ended by Berich's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Berich's vehicle was towed.

Berich was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Three Car Collision

Newtown Police report John Mahon, 80, of Southbury, operating a 2015 Subaru Forester, was traveling in the lot of St Rose Church at 4:53 pm April 3. Louise Ainsworth, 86, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Hyundai Kona, was stopped in the exit of the lot waiting for traffic and Celeste Vodola, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Ford Fusion, was stopped behind him. Mahon rear-ended Vodola's vehicle, which was pushed forward into Mahon's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. No vehicles were towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Burglary Charge For Three Minors

Newtown Police report that at 8:35 pm April 4, Newtown police officers were dispatched to a home on Boggs Hill Road for the report of a possible burglary in progress.

At the scene, officers located and detained three individuals inside who had broken in. All three were juveniles under the age of 18, and all were charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

The juveniles were released to the custody of guardians, and scheduled to appear in juvenile court on April 8.
