AP – CIVIL WAR PHOTOS ON VIEW IN CONFEDERATE RELIC ROOM

AVV 4-4 #734619

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Confederate Relic Room is displaying 50 photographs from the Civil War.

The display is from the David L. Hack Collection of the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Va. It is the first time the collection has been seen in South Carolina.

The exhibit includes a picture of Abraham Lincoln taken 11 days before the Gettysburg Address, a photograph of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in his uniform days after his surrender and a series of eight images of the hangings of the conspirators in Lincoln’s assassination.

Relic Room director Allen Roberson tells The (Columbia) State that many of the images were printed and mounted at the time they were taken.

The exhibit runs through June 28.
