DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 8:40 pm April 8 that a one-vehicle accident had occurred near the intersection of Great Ring Road and Sand Hill Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found that a vehicle which motorist Matthew Kwong, 46, of 9 Bradley Lane was driving had failed to negotiate a curve and had struck some guardrailing.

After investigating, police charged Kwong with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Police said they released Kwong on $100 bail for an April 26 court appearance.Â

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant on him, Kenneth Vaiuso of 90 Waterview Drive went to the police station on the morning of April 5 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with two counts of failure to comply with dog ownership requirements.

Police said the dog violations were issued to Vaiuso last September 16, but he did not respond to the ticket, after which a warrant was sought to resolve the enforcement matter.

Police said they released Vaiuso on $150 bail for an April 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Violations

Police report that after learning that there was a pending warrant on him, Andrew Cabral, 23, of 168 Huntingtown Road went to the police station on the morning of April 5 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court and with illegal drug possession.

After posting $500 bail, Cabral was released from custody for an April 19 appearance in Manchester Superior Court, police said.

Assault Incident

UPDATE: Information provided to The Newtown Bee, November 5, 2020, indicates that a Nolle was entered on the charge in June 2011, and charges dismissed.

Police said they received a complaint on the afternoon of April 4 about an incident that had occurred in front of the Ace Hardware store at 5 Queen Street,

Police said that after investigating, they charged Edward J. Pitochelli, Jr, 53, of Burlington with third-degree assault.

Police said that Pitochelli was involved in a physical altercation in which a male victim received minor injuries to his face. The victim refused medical attention, police said.

After processing the case, police released Pitochelli on a written promise to appear in court on April 20.

Warrant Executed

On the afternoon of April 7, after learning that police held a warrant on her, Kristen Hammond, 44, of 21 Oak Ridge Drive went to the police station and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, allowing a dog to roam, and having an unlicensed dog.

Police said that the warrant was issued because Hammond had not responded to a ticket that she had received for a past incident involving dog ownership violations.

Police released Hammond on $167 bail for an April 21 court appearance.

Motorist Charged

While on patrol about 1:25 pm April 8, police said they stopped motorist James Loveland, 35, of Brookfield on Old Hawleyville Road, near Farrell Road, because he was not wearing a seatbelt while driving.

After investigating, police charged Loveland with failure to wear a seatbelt, driving an unregistered vehicle, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Loveland was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court on April 26, according to police.

Two Violations

Police said they received a call from a person in the area of 45 Main Street at about 9:13 pm on April 8 concerning an incident in which a motorist struck an unoccupied vehicle and then left the scene of the accident without reporting it.

Police said that motorist Janis Hubina, 18, of 3 Sunset Hill Road allegedly backed into the parked vehicle and then left the area.

Police said they located Hubina in the Eden Hill Road area and charged her with unsafe backing and with avoiding responsibility. Hubina was released on $100 bail for an April 26 court appearance, police report.

Multiple Charges

Police report they stopped a vehicle on Church Hill Road on the night of April 9 to investigate.

Police said they charged the driver, Joshua Strong, 26, of 301 South Main Street with criminal impersonation, interfering with police, violation of a protective order, driving with a suspended license, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, driving without a license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police said they charged passenger Stephanie Norling, 30, of 301 South Main Street with interfering with police.

Strong was scheduled to appear in court on April 11 to answer the charges. Norling was scheduled to appear in court on April 26.

Vandalism

Police report that sometime between midnight and 12:30 am on April 9, someone intentionally damaged several curbside mailboxes on Russett Road in the area lying between its intersections with Winesap Road and Rockywood Drive. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact investigating Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Botsford Accident

Motorist Gracie Marchiano, 56, of New Rochelle, N.Y., who was driving a 2010 BMW sedan eastward near 15 Botsford Hill Road about 3:30 pm April 9, stopped, after which eastbound motorist Raymond Altieri, 61, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck, stopped behind the BMW, police said.

The BMW then backed up, striking the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Marchiano received an infraction for unsafe backing, police said.

End-To-End

Police report that at about 3:43 pm on April 7, a collision occurred involving two vehicles that were both backing up in a commercial parking lot at 34 Church Hill Road.

As motorist Cynthia Stierle, 44, of 2 Forest View Drive was backing up a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, motorist Amina Blake, 26, of Meriden was backing up a 2010 Honda Accord sedan, police said.

The rear ends of both vehicles then collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

South Main Crash

Motorist Christopher Farrington, 31, of 13 Whippoorwill Hill Road was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on South Main Street, near Appleblossom Lane, about 7:13 pm on April 4, when a deer ran out onto the street in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police said. The deer then ran off. Farrington was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Dickinson Drive

Motorist Alexander Dahlmeyer, 21, of 15 Sunnyview Terrace, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westward on Riverside Road about 4:40 pm April 6, attempted to make a left turn onto Dickinson Drive, but spun out of control and struck some curbing on the right side of Dickinson Drive, police report.

Dahlmeyer was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Yogananda Street and Osborn Hill Road about 7:40 am on March 29.

After traveling southward on Yogananda Street, motorist Kwabena Afriyie, 50, of 14 Clapboard Ridge Road, who was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-320 sedan, started to make a right turn onto westbound Osborn Hill Road, as motorist Susan Toikka, 50, of 26 Osborn Hill Road was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan westward on Osborn Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Afriyie a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Church Hill Road

Motorist Michael Hill, 20, of 10 West Street, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry sedan, was waiting at the exit of a parking lot at 20 Church Hill Road at about 2:07 pm April 5, as motorist Karl Philippi, 61, of 42 Swamp Road was driving a 1997 Nissan pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

As the Toyota attempted to exit the lot, it collided with the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Hill an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

Moving Violations

Police said that motorist Nathan Brown, 39, of Bridgeport made a left turn from westbound Mile Hill Road onto southbound South Main Street while the traffic signal there was red for him, so they stopped him to investigate about 5:40 pm April 8.

Police said they charged Brown with failure to obey a traffic control signal and with driving a vehicle with a suspended registration. Brown was released on a written promise to appear in court, police said.

Exit 9 Crash

State police report an accident on the Exit 9 on-ramp of westbound Interstate 84 which involved two autos that were attempting to enter the highway at about 5:40 pm on April 10.

Motorist Hugh Goldberg, 68, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry, was entering the highway and then yielded for traffic which was traveling on the highway, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a 1997 BMW 740-I driven by Falguni Shah, 32, no address given, state police said.

Goldberg reported pain, but declined medical treatment at the scene, state police said. State police said they issued Shah an infraction for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Truck Onto Median

State police said that Paul Heims, 52, of Rocky Ridge, Md., was driving a 2009 Freightliner truck eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 7:50 am April 7, when the truck drifted onto the highway’s median and struck some guardrailing.

Heims was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Warrant

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, a 17-year-old boy went to the police station on the afternoon of April 11 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, police said.

Police said the boy, who was age 16 when he received the alcohol infraction last July 1, was among a group of nine underage people who were charged with alcohol possession violations at a vacant house on Connors Road. Six of the nine people who were charged were age 16 at the time of the nighttime incident, which involved beer possession.

Police said the boy who was rearrested on the warrant on April 11 for not having responded to the $136 illegal alcohol possession ticket was released on $136 bail for an April 25 appearance at Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.

Stop Sign

Police report that they saw motorist Eric Lorson, 43, of Trumbull drive through a stop sign posted at the intersection of Currituck Road, Hawleyville Road, and Obtuse Road about 9:22 am on April 11, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Lorson with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Lorson on a written promise to appear on April 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant Case

Police said that after he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, Alex Ocasio, 19, of Philadelphia, Penn, turned himself in at the police station on the morning of April 12 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with simple trespassing.

Police said that the underlying trespassing charge stems from a nighttime incident last September 26. Police said Ocasio was rearrested on the warrant on April 12 for not having responded to the $92 trespassing ticket. Police released Ocasio on $92 bail for an April 14 court appearance.

Marijuana

Police said they responded to the Waterview Drive area in Riverside about 5 pm on April 12 after receiving a report that a suspicious vehicle was in the area.

Police said they located the vehicle in a parking lot at 138 Underhill Road and investigated. Police said they charged the vehicle’s driver, Robert T. Adams, Jr, 53, of 138 Underhill Road, with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Adams was released on $100 bail for an April 26 court appearance, according to police.

Hattertown Road

At about 2:24 pm on April 10, police stopped motorist Michael DiCrescenzo, 24, of Bethel on Hattertown Road, near Boggs Hill Road, to investigate.

DiCrescenzo was charged with failure to renew a vehicle registration and with driving with a suspended license, police said.

DiCrescenzo was released on $100 bail for an April 21 court appearance.

Two Violations

Police said that at about 3:51 pm on April 9, they stopped motorist Jennifer Matthews, 35, of Bridgeport on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, to investigate.

Police said they charged Matthews with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving with a suspended license. Matthews was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 26.
