Seeking Sopranos

SOUTHBURY — The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, announces openings in the soprano section, beginning with its May concert.

Entitled “Around the World in 80 Minutes — Part II,” the performance will be a continuation of its musical journey it presented last season, “Around the World in 80 Minutes.”

Opening with the official theme of the 2002 Winter Olympics, “Call to Champions” by John Williams, the program will also include music from Argentina, Canada, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, New Zealand, Romania, Scotland, and South Africa.

The concert will be on Saturday, May 21, at 3 pm, at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, with accompaniment by The Connecticut Master Chorale Orchestra.

Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, in the parish hall of South Britain Congregational Church, Route 172 at East Flat Hill Road in Southbury.

The Connecticut Master Chorale is an ensemble of 55 vocalists in its 12th year of singing in western Connecticut.  In addition to their regular three-concert season, the Chorale has performed by invitation at the White House, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, West Point Military Academy and three times at Carnegie Hall.
