Time For A 'No-Care' Zone
Time For A âNo-Careâ Zone
To the Editor:
Our government keeps taking from âwe the people.â I am sick of our governmentâs inability to police themselves. Letâs start with term limits. If all elected officials had only one term of allowable service, we wouldnât have the posturing, the showmanship, and the buying of votes by lobbyists. Our senate should be limited to a single six-year term, members of the house limited to a single four-year term and the President limited to a single four-year term. The President announced his reelection bid with 20 months to go before the November 2012 election.
The bloated federal government is broken, the country is broke, and spending is out of control. Congress is very good at spending and wasting our tax dollars. Congress talks about cutting the cost of government. They should start with Congressional salaries and benefits. Their health care is completely covered by taxpayers. They have retirement plans that far exceed anything the average taxpayer will enjoy. Cost of living adjustment increases take effect annually unless members of Congress vote to not accept it. Start cutting!
We are fighting wars all over the world. Our government has spent, squandered, and lost billions of our hard-earned tax dollars. Why do we continue to send billions of dollars overseas, funding a corrupt government in Afghanistan, under Hamid Karzaiâs administration? We do not need to be dragged into a civil war in another Muslim country. Let the Arab nations police the issue in Libya. Forget about a âno-flyâ zone. I am all for a âdonât-careâ zone.
