CORCORAN GALLERY OF ART PRESENTS ‘FORM FOLLOWS FAMILY’ TALK JUNE 21

AVV 1-24 #685836

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Corcoran Gallery of Art will present a gallery talk, “Form Follows Family: Modernism and the Material World of Childhood” Thursday, June 21, at 7 pm, at Corcoran Bridge, given by Bryn Varley Hollenbeck, PhD. candidate, University of Delaware.

This talk centers on the connections between children and Modernism in early Twentieth Century American homes. Modernism affected children’s everyday lives and the ways in which parents envisioned childhood. Idealistic notions about what childhood should be and what children should become directed both parents and Modernist designers as they fashioned environments to produce the next generation’s healthy, well-adjusted, and intelligent aesthetes.

Corcoran Gallery of Art is at 500 17th Street NW. For information, www.corcoran.org or 202-639-1700.
